The doctor reveals the 5 medical essentials she packs when she travels

Don’t get caught trying to hold it at 30,000 feet.

Summer is peak travel season and Dr. Sasha Haddad, an LA-based family doctor, has taken to TikTok to share her list of essential medical travel supplies — and the knowledge that it’s better to have it than not need it. rather than having a need and not having it.

The five items in Haddad’s flying apothecary are medication to relieve stomach pains, an allergy medicine, a first aid kit, Advil, and bug spray.

Medicines for the stomach

For abdominal pain of all origins, Dr. Sasha Haddad recommends Pepto-Bismol. Dr Sasha Haddad/Instagram

Haddad recommends travelers, especially adventurous and picky eaters, keep Pepto-Bismol in their luggage.

The pink stuff treats nausea and diarrhea caused by the stomach flu or food poisoning. This over-the-counter medication works by killing harmful bacteria, reducing gut inflammation, and slowing the flow of fluid and electrolytes into the gut.

Haddad also suggests Zofran, a prescription drug, for nausea and vomiting.

OTC Allergy Medicines

Haddad, seen carrying an OTC allergy medicine, warns travelers: “Yes, Italy is green and beautiful. Tell your sinuses!”

According to Centers for Disease Control and Preventionabout 25% of adults and nearly 19% of children report having seasonal allergies.

Symptoms can range from annoying – sneezing and stuffy noses – to miserable – itchy, watery eyes, congestion, fatigue, cough and point behind the nose.

New environments can mean new irritants for allergy sufferers, and experts recommend taking medications early to prevent symptoms rather than fight them.

First aid kit

Haddad never leaves home without a first aid kit — it’s even more important to be prepared for emergencies when you travel.

“Wait until you scratch your leg trying to jump into the water in Greece,” she explained.

The Post features these eight first aid kits that can be great for the home, car or suitcase.

Advil

Haddad always has a pack of Advil handy for hangovers, fevers, muscle aches or menstrual cramps.

She claims, “If Aperol spritz didn’t give you a headache, something else might!”

OFF! insect spray

Bugs will disappear with OFF! Dr Sasha Haddad/Instagram

Bug bites can be a real bummer during the holidays, so Haddad FISH! “for the bugs that can’t wait to meet you when you get there.”

A commenter on Haddad’s TikTok post last week suggested travelers instead invest in mosquito nets to avoid carrying liquids through airport security.

CDC recommends looking for mosquito repellents with the active ingredients DEET, IR3535, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptusamong others.

You can also treat clothing and outdoor equipment with the insecticide permethrin to protect against ticks and mosquitoes.
